This post is a place for me to aggregate some links to various places of interest in Edinburgh on the subject of millinery and costume production. Though I will primarily be there to take writing courses, I will have plenty of time off to explore the city, and I'd love to check out some of its internationally known millinery culture!
Academics:
Telford College offers classes in millinery to its theater students. They won't be offering any while I'm there, but perhaps I could get in touch with one of their instructors and ask to see the facilities.
I hope I can make an appointment to check out the facilities for the Performance Costume program at the Edinburgh College of Art.
Queen Margaret University also offers a program in costume production for the theater.
Millinery:
Sally Ann Provan is a well-known Edinburgh milliner for theater and film, and bespoke couture. Maybe she needs a volunteer a couple days a week!
I definitely want to go check out the Fabhatrix boutique and workshop!
Ta Ta Hats has a horrible website, but they appear on source lists for the film industry in Scotland, so I'll probably still give them a call. After all, Parsons in NYC has a horrible website as well.
Professional:
I don't know if anyone will be around at the Royal Lyceum Theatre while I'm there, but I will probably try to get in touch with the head of costumes, to see if I could take a backstage tour of their production facility.
McMillan Stage Costume looks like from their website that they might cater to community theaters, but I will probably still see if I can tour their storage facility.
